Commander Victor Failmezger is a retired US Navy officer with 22 years of active service. He has eight personal decorations and served aboard aircraft carriers and other ships. He was stationed in Italy, Germany, Japan and the Philippines. Career highlights include participating in the evacuation of Saigon, serving as aide to the Director of Naval Intelligence, assigned as the assistant Naval Attache Rome, Italy; the Naval Officer charged with making visits to East Berlin during the Cold War; and a Director of bomb damage assessment for the Defense Intelligence Agency during the first Gulf War. He currently resides outside Front Royal, Virginia. Victor Failmezger leads tours to Italy from Salerno to Rome, to retrace the US Fifth Army route across the actual battlefields and regularly addresses historical societies as well as the Navy and Army War Colleges.
